Google Doodle Commemorates Second Phase of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in India

Google celebrated the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in India with a special Google Doodle. Instead of its usual logo, Google showcased an image of an inked index finger, a symbol synonymous with voting in Indian elections. By clicking on the Doodle, users could access search results related to the latest election updates in India.

Polling began across 88 constituencies in 13 states and Union Territories during this phase. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah both urged citizens, especially young and female voters, to participate actively in the democratic process. The voting, part of the seven-phased Lok Sabha election, started at 7 am and ended at 6 pm. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.

In this phase, Kerala and Karnataka had the most constituencies up for grabs, with all 20 seats in Kerala and 14 in Karnataka. A total of 1202 candidates contested, including 102 females, targeting over 8.08 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters, along with 5,929 third-gender electors and 34.8 lakh first-time voters.

The Election Commission implemented various measures for a smooth voting experience, including webcasting in over 50% of polling stations, deploying micro-observers, and setting up model polling stations with local themes. Additionally, over 4100 polling stations were entirely managed by women, and more than 640 polling stations were managed by Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity in the electoral process.
